Georges Michel is Huguette’s husband and the owner of Georges Michel Wine Estate.
Former owner of Chateau de Grandmont (a wine estate in the French wine region of Beaujolais/Burgundy), Frenchman Georges Michel was already heartedly enamoured by wine when he and his family decided to move to New Zealand.
Domaine Georges Michel was established in 1997 and situated in the ‘Golden Mile’ which denotes the central route of the Rapaura area, renowned for the production of the best flavored fruit of the Marlborough wine region. Georges’ daughter, Swan, (Bachelor in Oenology and Viticulture – Lincoln University NZ) has headed the winemaking team.
Today, Domaine Georges Michel wines are exported in 16 different countries and are founds in some of the most prestigious restaurants wine lists and exclusive wines shops throughout the world.The stunning winery and its wines, gift and gourmet shop are open to the public.

The vineyard restaurant “La Veranda”, a huge Victorian villa, invites you to relax in the tranquil surroundings of the Richmond Ranges. La Veranda is part of the Georges Michel Estate complex, where visitors can choose a selection of wine tasting ‘flights’, matched with French degustation plates. For example, enjoy four of our Golden Mile wines featuring Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rose, with a plate of imported French cheeses or a selection of French ‘charcuterie’.
Nestled amongst the vines and bathed in Marlborough’s prolific sunshine, La Veranda is the perfect venue to rest and relax in a very special ambiance, either indoors or outdoors.
